450/250 Class – Philadelphia Facts:
- HISTORY LESSON: Supercross embarks on the “City of Brotherly Love” for the fourth time in the sport’s 50 + year history, with the others being a Saturday-Sunday doubleheader in 1980 at John F. Kennedy Stadium and recently last season at Lincoln Financial Field. Supercross went a record 43 years (1981-2023) between visiting Philly, a record Pittsburgh will be close to breaking in a few weekends at 41 years. One year before the first official Supercross round, the 500 Class Pro Motocross Championship made a rare stadium appearance in JFK Stadium, with Pierre Karsmakers (Yamaha) scoring the win.
- 1980 DOUBLEHEADER: The weekend consisted of two rounds held August 9-10 and was the season’s penultimate weekend. Mike Bell (Yamaha) won Saturday night and finished third on Sunday, clinching the 450SX Class title. Bell’s teammate Broc Glover won the Sunday edition. John F. Kennedy Stadium was demolished in 1992, and Lincoln Financial Field was built in 2002 on the same property.
- RETURN IN 2024: Rookie phenom Jett Lawrence (Honda) entered round 15 Philly with the red plate by a mere five points over a resurgent Cooper Webb (Yamaha). Lawrence gained seven points on the two-time champ with his seventh victory to extend a points lead he wouldn’t lose in the final two rounds. Chase Sexton (KTM) and Jason Anderson (Kawasaki) rounded out the podium ahead of Webb in fourth.
- 250SX PENNSYLVANIA HISTORY: Pennsylvania never hosted a 250SX Class round before last season. All 450SX Class rounds held in the state pre-dated the 250SX Class. Tom Vialle (KTM) came into Lincoln Financial Field with a 13-point lead over Haiden Deegan (Yamaha) and extended his red plate advantage with a runner-up compared to Deegan’s third place finish. Max Anstie (Honda) stole the show with the win, cementing a top five Championship finish in the Eastern Divisional.
